During my first semester at Carnegie Mellon University- Entertainment Technology Center I was lucky to be taught Building Virtual Worlds by Jesse Schell and Dave Culyba. For this class we were supposed to create different worlds based on certain requirements using different platforms in a duration of 2 weeks. We used different platforms like HTC Vive (VR), Hololens (AR), Oculus (VR) etc.
During this class I worked in different roles as a Character Technical Artist and Environment Artist. I learned about character design and modelling based on the game design and platform requirements. I also learned about character rigging and animation. I used my UI/ UX design background to design certain UI elements for some worlds too. As an environment artist, I created concept art for the environment as well as learned about modelling and texturing.
We used Unity as our game engine for creating the worlds and I used softwares like Autodesk Maya and Adobe Photoshop for creating the 3D assets as well as for texturing.
